Game Story

Trois-Rivieres, QC — The Worcester Railers picked up all 4 possible points, completing a weekend sweep over the Trois-Rivieres Lions 6-4.

John Muse made his second start of the weekend, putting up a 23-save performance. Joe Vrbetic had 39 saves on the other side of the rink for the Lions. Blade Jenkins, Anthony Callin, Trevor Cosgrove, and Jack Quinlivan each scored for Worcester. Justin Ducharme, Cedric Montminy, Nicolas Guay, and Alex-Olivier Voyer were the goal scorers for Trois-Rivieres. Trevor Cosgrove, Blade Jenkins, Anthony Callin, and Anthony Repaci each had multiple points on the night.

Blade Jenkins had another stellar performance with a hat trick and two assists with a plus-4 rating, one-upping an incredible night last night. His back-to-back hat trick night appears to be a first for the city and was one that is for sure a Railers first. He has points in his last seven games with 11 goals and 4 assists in that span and extended his goal streak to four games.

Blade Jenkins put the Railers on the board at 12:49, one second after a Railers penalty expired. He skated into the left circle after a pass from Trevor Cosgrove, where he scored over the stick of Joe Vrbetic. His goal would be the lone goal of the period as Worcester led 1-0 and outshot Trois-Rivieres 16-8.

Anthony Callin brought the Railers lead to 2-0 on a one-timer on the doorstep of Joe Vrbetic at 3:25. Justin Ducharme scored 50 seconds later on a rebound to cut that lead in half. Trevor Cosgrove made a long shot from the blue line to regain a two-point lead at 12:11. Blade Jenkins scored on a partial breakaway at 14:59 to extend that lead to 4-1. Cedric Montminy scored from the left side at 17:58 to cut the Railers lead back to two.

With a couple of gift power plays, and and couple of goals in the third period the Lions regained ground, eventually tying the game. The Lions first of the period came at 1:51, 29 seconds into a power play that had Ryan Verrier in the box. Nicolas Guay scored on an empty net as Muse exited to play the puck behind the net. He never gained control of the puck, and Guay got the easy goal to bring it to 4-3. Alex-Olivier Voyer tied it at 8:18 in the period after a loose puck eluded Muse, and he backed over the puck as it crossed the goal line. Jack Quinlivan regained the Railers lead on a breakaway, with his second goal of the season bringing the game to 5-4. Blade Jenkins put the game away, scoring on the empty net at 18:08 to complete his second hat trick in back-to-back games.

The three stars of the game were:

Blade Jenkins (Worcester) – 3 goals, 2 assists
Jack Quinlivan (Worcester) – 1 goal
Jakov Novak (Trois-Rivières) – 2 assists

The Railers remain in third place as of Saturday night with 45 points and trail the Norfolk Admirals by five points for second place. The Newfoundland Growlers also have 45 points but have played two more games than Worcester.

Elsewhere on Saturday, the Newfoundland Growlers beat the Indy Fuel 6-3 thanks to a hat trick from Issac Johnson. The Rapid City Rush beat the Maine Mariners 6-4 with their back-to-back wins at the Cross Insurance Arena. The Adirondack Thunder and the Reading Royals settled their scoreless stalemate in the shootout, former Railer Grant Jozefek scored the winner of that game in the fourth round. The Norfolk Admirals also settled their game in a shootout, beating the Toledo Walleye 2-1. All teams except Worcester and Trois-Rivieres have rematches from Saturday night on Sunday afternoon.

The Railers return to the DCU Center next weekend for back-to-back games against the Maine Mariners, both games will be the only two they’ll play in Worcester for February. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. on Friday.
