Game Story

Reading, PA — The Worcester Railers completed a weekend sweep over the Reading Royals on Saturday night with a final score of 3-2.

The Worcester Railers scored three unanswered goals Saturday night after the Royals kicked off the game with back-to-back goals. The Railers were provided with some reinforcements on the road with Ryan MacKinnon joining the team, with the Bridgeport Islanders also on a road trip of their own, they played against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Saturday night and play against Hershey twice next week. Brent Moran made his second start of the weekend, making 31 saves and picking up his second win of the season with Ken Appleby being scratched a third straight game. Reading’s Nolan Maier stopped 27 on 30 shots by Worcester. Quinn Ryan, Anthony Repaci, and Ryan MacKinnon contributed to the Railers’ scoring on Saturday.

The Royals had two goals in 88 seconds to have a quick 2-0 lead in the first period but would be unable to find the back of the net for the remainder of the game. The Royals’ first goal came halfway through the first period when Charlie Gerard, all alone on a breakaway, beat Worcester’s goalie Brent Moran with a wrist shot, giving the Royals a 1-goal lead. Soon after, Devon Paliani added a second goal for the Royals when the puck found him in the slot. Worcester had an opportunity to bring the score to within one goal before the end of the first period, and they capitalized on a power play when Collin Adams passed the puck to Quinn Ryan who scored. The score was 2-1 going into the second period, and the shots were tied 11-11 after 20 minutes.

Anthony Repaci tied the game for Worcester five minutes into the second period by skating along the goal line, cutting below the net, and throwing the puck toward the side of the net, just beating the Royals’ goalie Nolan Maier. Neither team scored for the rest of the period. Brent Moran, Worcester’s goalie, made a fantastic cross-crease save to keep the score tied 2-2 towards the end of the period.

Ryan MacKinnon scored the game-winning goal for Worcester on a one-timer from the right circle at 11:29, earning his second point of the night and helping Worcester secure their third consecutive win and second victory over the Royals this season.

The three stars of Saturday night’s game were:

  1. Ryan MacKinnon (Worcester) – 1 goal, 1 assist
  2. Anthony Repaci (Worcester) – 1 goal, +1
  3. Charlie Gerard(Reading) – 1 goal
