Game Story

Glens Falls, NY – After picking up a big win over Manchester Friday, the Worcester Railers made their trip back to the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls to take on the Adirondack Thunder on Saturday.

Mitch Gillam returned to the net for Worcester after having last night off and previously starting in the first four games for the Railers. Gillam kept the Railers on the track with 22 saves during the night. Former Worcester Railers Goalie Alex Sakellapolous made the start for Adirondack, allowing 1 goal on 33 shots.

Neither team could find the net after 20 minutes, with shots being tied at 6 each. Both teams were 0-2 on the power play in the first period as well.

Peter McArthur scored the first of the night for Adirondack with a shot from behind the goal line that made its way under the crossbar behind the back of Goaltender Mitch Gillam. The shot was what you’d call an “impossible angle”, so there’s not much Gillam could do. Railers trailed 1-0 through two periods, coming out on top with shots at 22-15.

Josh Holmstrom tied it up with a shot from the side of the net Midway through the third period. The goal was Holmstrom’s fourth of the season, coincidentally it was Austin Block’s fourth assist on that goal. Adirondack’s James Henry put the Thunder ahead by one with 1:14 left in regulation. Gillam was pulled for the remainder of the game which wasn’t enough in the end, giving the Adirondack Thunder the win.

The Game’s Three Stars were:

1. ADK – A. Sakellaropoulos
2. ADK – J. Henry
3. ADK – P. MacArthur

Coming Home: The Railers return to Worcester after picking up two wins on their road trip. The Adirondack Thunder will also be traveling to Worcester at some point this week, as both teams will face each other for their third match of the season at the DCU Center on Friday. The game starts with the first puck drop at 7 PM.

Notes

  • Railers Scratches: Tommy Kelley (14-day IR), Ivan Kosorenkov (immigration issues), David Quenneville (upper body), Yanick Turcotte (lower body), and Connor Doherty.
  • Thunder Scratches:
  • As someone who has attended several viewing parties at the Tavern last year and my first this year being held at Nonna’s at the Worcester Ice Center tonight, there needs to he more coordination on how these parties are held. I sat at a Table with a few of my long-time hockey buddies and the waiting staff could not figure out what we had ordered, and they couldn’t figure out how to get their audio-video system working. I rarely use this to bash, but proper training needs to he done at both the Railers Tavern and at Nonna’s for these parties.
  • Former Railers goalie Eamon McAdam has been returned to the Newfoundland Growlers after getting his first NHL recall with the Toronto Maple Leafs as their emergency backup goaltender. He was with the Toronto Marlies for the past week and a half as a backup goalie but did not play in net for either team. McAdam returns to Newfoundland, who will make their first-ever appearance against the Railers this coming Saturday.
