Game Story
Glens Falls, NY — The Worcester Railers capped their weekend with a fifth point, defeating the Adirondack Thunder 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Parker Gahagen stopped 36 shots in his third appearance of the weekend, while Jeremy Brodeur made 19 saves for Adirondack. Riley Piercey skated in his 100th game as a Railer, becoming the 18th player in franchise history to hit the milestone. Worcester reached the .500 mark for the first time this season after finishing last year at .528. Railers goals came from Anthony Repaci, Gleb Veremyev, and Lincoln Hatten, who scored twice. Grant Loven had the Thunder’s lone tally. Ryan Miotto had an assist in all three games this weekend, and is now on a three-game point streak. (0-3-3)
Gahagen kept Worcester afloat during a lopsided first period in which Adirondack outshot the Railers 19-1. Ryan Miotto went off for a tripping call at 10:31, that went to 4-on-3, 4-on-4, and then back to 5-on-4 for three minutes. Cole Donhauser was run into by Brian Carrabes while heading back to the bench, he retaliated with a cross-check on him, and was then sent to the locker room with a cross-checking major and a game misconduct. These penalties would all be killed off. The Thunder then opened the scoring at 17:29 when Grant Loven buried a loose puck following back-to-back saves from Gahagen on Jeremy Hanzel and Brannon McManus. Adirondack remarkably led 1-0 through the first twenty minutes, outshooting Worcester 19-1.
A couple power plays in the second period was enough to wake the Railers offense up, resulting in two goals to put them back in the game. Gleb Veremyev and Jacob Graves went to the box for roughing, Graves’ penalty was a double minor. Anthony Repaci scored on a setup from Drew Callin to tie the game at 3:58. Adirondack would be given another double minor at 7:56 when Drew Callin drew a high-stick from Ryan Wheeler. Callin did not miss a shift after a quick repair on the bench, he would then setup Gleb Veremyev to put the Railers up 2-1. Railers would be shorthanded at 16:41 for too many men, then 17 seconds later, Lincoln Hatten scored on a rebound from Matt DeMelis to make it 3-1.
Worcester struck again early in the third. Just 40 seconds into the period, they went to their fifth power play, and at 2:02 Hatten deposited his second of the night off a Ryan Miotto rebound to make it 4-1. The Railers closed out the win to pull back to .500 for the first time since last season’s finish.
The three stars of the game were:
- Parker Gahagen (Worcester) – win, 36 saves
- Lincoln Hatten (Worcester) – 2 goals
- Anthony Repaci (Worcester) – 1 goal, 1 assist
