Glens Falls, NY — The Worcester Railers lost their second consecutive game of the week to the hands of the Adirondack Thunder on Friday night. The final score from Glens Falls was 4-1.

Brent Beaudoin scored Worcester’s only goal, with assists credited to Nolan Vesey and Myles McGurty. Henrik Tikkanen made the start for Worcester, despite a 41-save performance, it was his fifteenth loss of the season. Patrick Grasso had a hat trick for the Thunder, scoring the first, third, and fourth (EN) goals. Former Railer Grant Jozefek scored Adirondack’s second goal. The Railers were outshot 45-25 throughout the game, though scoring opportunities between the two teams could not have been further apart.

Patrick Grasso put the Thunder up 1-0 at 12:01, beating Henrik Tikkanen on a slapshot from the slot.  The Thunder outshot Worcester 17-10 heading into the second period with the one-goal advantage.

Neither team scored in the second period, keeping the Railers in the game despite being outshot 12-6 in the middle frame. Andrei Bakanov would get the first shot tally halfway through the period with the Railers heading on their first power play. Despite being outplayed, the Railers still trailed by one heading into the third period.

Brent Beaudoin managed to tie the game 1-1 with his 19th goal of the season at 4:12 of the third period, assisted by Nolan Vesey and Myles McGurty. The burst of life wouldn’t last long with Grand Jozefek scoring 38 seconds later to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. Patrick Grasso would score two more times at 8:03 and an empty net goal at 17:22 to complete the hat trick and give the Thunder a 4-1 victory.

In the North division, Reading emerged victorious over the Toledo Walleye, ending Toledo’s 18-game winning streak with a 4-2 score, the second-best in ECHL history. Meanwhile, the Florida Everblades failed to score against the Newfoundland Growlers, who shut out the ‘Blades 3-0. The Maine Mariners secured a narrow 4-3 victory in overtime against the Atlanta Gladiators. Finally, the Trois-Rivieres Lions dominated the Norfolk Admirals, shutting them out 5-0. Railers magic number to clinch a playoff spot remains at 16 points with 12 games left in their season. The Adirondack Thunder are five points back of a playoff spot with two games in hand.

The Railers and Thunder’s week concludes Saturday night in Glens Falls.

  • Adirondack scratches: Brandon Schultz, Bryce Martin, Colin Long, Jeff Taylor, Mareks Mitens, and Yanick Turcotte.
  • Steve Jandric was assigned to Worcester from Springfield after spending the majority of the season after a successful PTO with the club. He had eight points in 31 games with Springfield. Friday marked his first game in the ECHL since November 16. Nick Fea was released to make room for Jandric as the team was at capacity.
  • The Railers announced the following number changes on Friday morning following Steve Jandric and Reece Newkirk’s returns to Worcester. Max Johnson is the first player to be issued #42 this season, including pre-season action if he ends up playing again this season – he was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week. It is assumed there was a new set of jerseys with #42 made up after a number of number swaps already being made this season.
