Game Story

Parker Gahagen made 14 saves in his second appearance of the weekend. Francesco Lapenna made 24 saves in his first appearance of the season for Trois-Rivieres. Cole Donhauser and MacAuley Carson scored for Worcester. Anthony Beauregard, Édouard Charron, and Mathieu Bizier were the goal scorers for Trois-Rivieres.

Three power play goals allowed by Worcester was the deciding factor in Sunday’s game. A few of those penalties were weak calls by the officials in Sunday’s game, but figuring out how to kill off those penalties, regardless of how they are called, are in the needs improvement category as they close out opening weekend.

Anthony Beauregard opened up scoring at 5:32 in the first period, when he beat Gahagen on a shot from the right face-off circle while Michael Suda sat for an interference penalty called 1:20 prior. Lions led 1-0 while Worcester outshot Trois-Rivieres 11-4.

Eduoard Charron scored on the far corner of the net on a shot from the left side at 3:55 in the second period. Cole Donhauser broke the scoreless tie when he connected with Lincoln Hatten while on the power play at 14:32 in the second period. Worcester trailed 2-1 while outshooting Trois-Rivieres 20-11.

Michael Suda went to the box for a high-sticking call at 1:24 of the third period. It took all of 12 seconds for Mathieu Bizier to find the back of the net after the puck made some bounces off some skates and sticks up front, it eventually went in and the Lions were up 3-2. Bizier scored shorthanded nearly ten minutes later in one of the sloppiest plays so far this season, Blake Wheeler turned over the puck in the Railers zone, then failed to clear the puck from Gahagen’s crease and the puck went over the goal line in a battle for the puck. MacAuley Carson batted a mid-air puck a minute and a half later to make it 4-2. Gahagen was pulled with 2:37 left in regulation, then Suda went to the box for a slashing call, Anthony Beauregard eventually scored on the empty net with 31 seconds left to seal a 5-2 win for the Lions.

The three stars of the game were:

1. Mathieu Bizier (Trois-Rivieres) – 2 goals
2. Francesco Lapena (Trois-Rivieres) – win, 24 saves, 0.923 SV%
3. Anthony Beauregard (Trois-Rivieres) – 2 goals, 1 assist

In the only other North Division game played on Sunday, the Norfolk Admirals beat the Atlanta Gladiators 3-2.

The Railers head to Portland next weekend for the first of back-to-back games at the Cross Insurance Arena against the Maine Mariners. Puck drops at 1 p.m.

Notes

• Worcester Scratches: Adam Samuelsson, Anthony Repaci, Chase Clark, Connor Federkow, Dalton Duhart, Michael Abgrall, Player, and Riley Ginnell.
• Trois-Rivieres Scratches: Édouard Charron, Landon Fuller, Marko Jakovljevic, Nathan Plamondon-Michaud, Samuel StHilaire, and Zachary Massicotte.
• Railers debuted their Heart of the Commonwealth jerseys on Sunday night. So far, they have announced nine dates that they will be wearing their new cream-colored alternates. Sunday’s date was not on this original list and based on that list, was expected to debut on November 8.
• In other jersey discussions, two players do not have the Polar patch on their jerseys on their white or their alternate jerseys. Some fans had noticed this during the meet the players event last week.
• Cam McDonald skated in his 100th game as a Railer on Sunday. He becomes the 23rd player to reach that milestone.
