The Worcester Railers finalized the trade sending Wade Murphy to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Thursday.
Word of the trade broke on Wednesday after the departure of defenseman Patrick McNally. Railers were initially going to receive former Worcester Shark Curt Gogol in exchange for Wade Murphy. However, due to a hockey-related injury discovered by during a physical, the trade fell through and Gogol will stay with Greenville.
Gogol released the following statement on Twitter:
Overwhelmed with the amount of support I’ve received from the fans in Worcester. You guys are the best!! Sadly I will not be joining the team due to an injury sustained this season. Hopeful of a speedy recovery so I can get back on the ice and continue doing what I love.
Word broke by Telegram & Gazette’s Bill Ballou on Thursday that the Railers would recieve Brock Buekeboom, not Curt G
Beukeboom has played in 15 games for the Swamp Rabbits this season and has one assist on his scoring record this year. Brock was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 3rd round of the 2010 NHL Draft. He was previously on the Roster of the Toledo Walleye this season and was traded to Greenville on November 4. Buekeboom is a graduate of University of Prince Edward Island, playing for the Panthers for the past four seasons. Beukeboom is the son of former NHL defenseman Jeff Beukeboom.
Buekeboom will wear #41 for the Railers and is expected to debut during the Railers road trip this weekend.
