Worcester, MA- The Worcester IceCats’ National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the St. Louis Blues, today assigned defenseman Jaroslav Obsut (YAHR-o-slav ob-SOOT) to the American Hockey League (AHL) team. He was assigned to Worcester after St. Louis claimed defenseman Todd Reirden off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.

Obsut, a 23 year old native of Presov, Slovakia, will be returning to Worcester after playing in 31 games for the ‘Cats last season. During that time he amassed two goals and eight assists: 31(2/8/10). Part of Obsut’s 1998-99 campaign was also spent in Augusta of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). With the Lynx, he scored 11 goals and added 25 assists in 41 games: 41(11/25/36). In five 1999 pre-season games with the Blues he tallied one goal and one assist: 5(1/1/2)

Obsut is expected to be in uniform as the IceCats open their sixth season at Worcester’s Centrum Centre on Saturday, October 2nd at 7:35 PM against the Lowell Lock Monsters.
