Game Story

Worcester, MA – The Worcester Railers and the Fort Wayne Komets for their only match-up of the 2017-18 regular season.

Railers wore St. Patrick’s Day jerseys that were auctioned off to benefit Be Like Brit. It marked the seventh time this season the Railers wore specialty jerseys and it was the seventh time they have won when wearing them. Railers will close out their inaugural season undefeated on Specialty Jersey nights.

Fort Wayne’s Shawn Sydlowski put the Komets on the board first with a shot from the right circle that was set up with a pass from behind the back of Mason Baptista. Nick Saracino scored his tenth of the season off a shot that bounced over the pad of the Komets goalie and in. After 20, the game was tied at 1 with Railers outshooting the Komets 10-9.

Railers would take their first lead of the night on the power play by Matt Lane, which was slapshotted from outside the left circle and wedged between the post and Komets netminder Garrett Bartus. Komets would tie it up with just under six left in the period with a goal by Marcus Basara. Game was tied at 2 and shots were tied at 18 after 40 minutes.

Matt Lane picked up his second goal of the game on a 5-on-4 30 seconds into the third period. That would be the final goal of the game with a Railers win after 60 minutes.

The three stars of the game were Mike Cornell (2 assists), Nick Saracino (1 goal, 2 assists), and Matt Lane (2 goals). Nailers are ahead by 5 points while the Railers have three games in hand.

Railers wrap-up their 3-in-3 weekend against the Utah Grizzlies in Worcester on Sunday. Puck drops at 3 PM.
