Game Story

Trois-Rivières, QC — The Worcester Railers fell 4-1 to the Trois-Rivières Lions, closing out their seven-game road trip on Wednesday night.

Henrik Tikkanen made 34 saves in his second consecutive start. Quinn Ryan scored Worcester’s only goal, his eighth of the season. Philippe Desrosiers stopped all but one of Worcester’s 29 shots on Wednesday. Anthony Beauregard, Philippe Bureau-Blais, Olivier Galipeau, and William Leblanc each scored goals for Trois-Rivières. Wednesday’s loss was the Railers first back-to-back loss they’ve had so far this season.

It seemed the Railers could not drop their sluggish play Wednesday, continuing a trend from Sunday in Newfoundland. Trois-Rivières got on the board twice in the opening period and scored a third goal in the second period. Anthony Beauregard scored at 6:35 from the left circle, scored in the slot with no Railers coverage in front of the net. Philippe Bureau-Blais made it 2-0 at 17:08 with a backhand shot from the right circle. Railers were outshot 14-11 in the opening period.

Olivier Galipeau brought the Lions lead to 3-0, sending the puck through a crowded Railers net at 3:03. Lions outshot Worcester 16-10 in the second, bringing the shot totals to 30-21 at the end of the second period.

The only goal of the night was scored by Quinn Ryan at 11:35 in the period, picking up the puck at center ice with a top-shelf goal between the circles for his eighth of the season. Henrik Tikkanen was pulled at the 17:24 mark in the third period and at 2:36 left to go in the period William Leblanc put the game away with an empty net goal.

The three stars of Wednesday night’s game were:

  1. Olivier Galipeau (Trois-Rivieres) – 1 goal
  2. Anthony Beauregard (Trois-Rivieres) – 1 goal
  3. Philippe Desrosiers (Trois-Rivieres) – win, 29 saves, 0.966 SV%

Around the division, there were two inter-division matchups that were won by North division teams. Newfoundland beat Iowa 4-3 in overtime and Reading beat Allen 5-2 Wednesday. The Adirondack Thunder beat Norfolk Admirals 4-2, with the last-place Admirals now with a 2-17-1 record.

The Railers head back to Worcester after earning 9 out of 14 points on their 7-game road trip. They’ll face the Idaho Steelheads in the first of five straight home games on Friday at 7:05 PM.
