Game Story

Savannah, GA — The Worcester Railers emerged victorious on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Savannah Ghost Pirates 3-2 at the Enmarket Arena.

This match-up was the only scheduled meeting between the Railers and the ECHL’s newest expansion franchise. Anthony Repaci broke the franchise record for the longest point streak, reaching fourteen games with an assist. Nick Fea extended his point streak to four games by scoring his fifth goal of the season. Jake Pappalardo scored the game’s lone power-play goal. Brent Beaudoin netted his fifteenth goal of the season, which ultimately served as the game-winning goal halfway through the second period. Henrik Tikkanen made 26 saves, securing his second win on the six-game road trip and his fifteenth win of the season.

The Ghost Pirates kicked off scoring at 5:16 in the first period. Daniel D’Amato capitalized on Henrik Tikkanen leaving his crease to make a save, in which D’Amato picked up the loose puck with Tikkanen and a few Railers defenders scrambling to get back into position and failed to block the attempt. Nine minutes later, Connor Cocoran was called to the penalty box on a high-sticking call, giving the Railers the power play advantage that would end up being the only penalty called all game. Jake Pappalardo converted on the power play with a setup pass from Max Johnson for his second goal of the year. Two and a half minutes later, Nick Fea scored on a breakaway and beat goaltender Michael Bullion glove side. Anthony Repaci, who fed Fea the puck up ice, picked up an assist on the goal and extended his point streak to fourteen games, a new franchise record. As a result, the Railers ended the first period leading 2-1.

Five minutes into the second period, Brandon Estes evened the score with a precise shot from the right circle. Nevertheless, the Railers took the lead again at 11:50 of the second period, as Brent Beaudoin scored just under the crossbar, bringing the score to 3-2.

The three stars of Sunday afternoon’s game were:

  1. Brent Beaudoin (Worcester) – game-winning goal
  2. Anthony Repaci (Worcester) – 2 assists
  3. Pat Guay (Savannah) – 2 assists

The Norfolk Admirals were the only other North Division team playing on Sunday. Railers alum Brian Bowen had two goals in the Admirals’ 6-5 win over Wheeling which wrapped up about an hour and a half after the Railers.

After concluding their six-game road trip, the Railers will be heading back to Worcester to begin a busy 3-in-3 weekend, beginning on Friday against the Newfoundland Growlers.
