Game Story

Reading, PA — The Worcester Railers closed out a 3-in-3 weekend on Sunday against the Reading Royals after a 6.5-hour bus trip following last night’s 4-1 loss to the Manchester Monarchs.

Blake Wojtala made his second start for Worcester making 38 saves, though swapping the goalies didn’t solve any of their scoring issues. Jamie Phillips made his first career start against Worcester with 28 saves and the win. Tyler Barnes (27th) scored the only goal for Worcester. Michael Huntebrinker (16th), Brayden Low (14th), Adam Schmidt (23rd), and Kevin Goumas (5th) picked up goals for Reading.

Tyler Barnes scored Worcester’s only goal of the game at 7:05 in the first period. Barnes fed the puck to Ryan Hitchcock on a rush who passed the puck back to Barnes as Phillips left the net open for the goal. With exactly one minute on the clock, Michael Huntebrinker tied things up with a shot from the right circle.

Things would continue to go in Reading’s way as Brayden low made a shot through a crowded net to give the Royals a 2-1 lead. Holy Cross Grad Adam Schmidt brought the lead to 3-1 on the set-up from Huntebrinker from the left circle.

Kevin Goumas brought the Royals’ to a 4-1 lead at 17:00 with a shot into the empty net from the red line. Yanick Turcotte was sent to the showers early with a ten-minute misconduct with 30 seconds remaining,

Worcester was outshot 42-29 through sixty minutes of play and was outshot in each period. They had one power play opportunity in the second period, which they were unable to capitalize on.

The Three Stars of the Game were:

  1. Brayden Low (Reading) – goal, assist
  2. Jamie Phillips (Reading) – 28 saves, win
  3. Michael Huntebrinker (Reading) – goal, assist

Falling back even further, the Railers (33-26-6-4, 70 pts) fall back to sixth place in the division with Brampton climbing with a win over Adirondack earlier today. Railers will need to win a majority of the final six games to qualify for the playoffs.

The Railers hose the Brampton Beast on Saturday, the first of back-to-back games at 7:05.
