Game Story

Norfolk, VA — The Worcester Railers dropped to fourth place in the North Division following a shutout loss to the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday afternoon.

Tristan Lennox made 34 saves in his second consecutive start in this series. Thomas Millic earned his first professional shutout in his second win of the series. Stepan Timofeyev scored twice, supplemented by goals from Andrew McLean and Griffen Mendel. It was a feisty one on Sunday with a combined 86 penalty minutes, which is the second-most for a team so far this season (Iowa vs Wichita from last night, had a combined 106 PIMs).

Norfolk looked dominant from the start of Sunday’s game. They came close to scoring just 25 seconds into the game, but the referees reviewed it and determined it wasn’t a goal. The Railers outshot the Admirals 13-12 in the first period but did not score. Christian Krygier fought Mark Liwinski, earning a 4-minute double minor penalty for roughing, while Liwinski and Simon Kubicek sat for roughing and cross-checking, respectively. Norfolk took the lead in the first period with a goal at 3:43 by Stepan Timofeyev, tapping the puck through the pads of Tristian Lennox. Worcester had 13 shots on goal compared to Norfolk’s 12.

Norfolk doubled their lead midway through the second period to make things 2-0. With pressure from the Norfolk skaters, Andrew McLean was able to find the back of the net. Tempers continued to flare into the second period with Mark Liwinski dropping the gloves with Artyom Kulakov at 12:18. Both players had matching unsportsmanlike conducts, with an additional 10-minute misconduct to Liwinski. The Railers had 5 shots in the second period to Norfolk’s 13.

Norfolk scored a third goal at 4:51 in the third period, with a goal from Griffin Mendel. Norfolk added another goal at 11:36, a short-handed goal by Stepan Timofeyev, his second of the game. Norfolk outshot Worcester 13-4 in the third period, securing their second win of the season.

The three stars of the game were:

  1. Stepan Timofeyev (Norfolk) – 2 goals, 1 assist
  2. Thomas Milic (Norfolk) – win, shutout
  3. Keaton Jameson (Norfolk) – 2 assists

The Railers head home for the first of a three-game series against the Adirondack Thunder on Friday night. Puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
