Worcester, MA – The Worcester Railers opened their weekend series with a 6-3 victory over the Wheeling Nailers on Friday night at the DCU Center.

Parker Gahagen earned his tenth win of the season with 24 saves in his sixteenth appearance for the Railers. Maxim Pavlenko had 18 saves for Wheeling. Ryan Miotto, Riley Ginnell, Drew Callin, Anthony Callin, Nikita Susuyev, and Anthony Repaci each had goals for Worcester. David Breazeale, Matty De St. Phalle, and Max Graham scored for Wheeling.

Worcester opened up scoring at 1:37 in the first period when Ryan Miotto swept the puck into the net of Maxim Pavlenko on the Railers’ second shot of the game. Riley Ginnell gave Worcester a 2-0 lead when he beat Pavlenko with a shot under the glove at 16:07. With 39 seconds left in the period when Cole Donhauser set up Drew Callin after the Nailers turned over the puck in their own zone to bring the game to 3-0.

Wheeling got on the board when David Breazeale scored on a shot from the blueline after stopping the puck from bouncing out of the zone at the 6:17 mark of the second period. Five and a half minutes later when Anthony Callin skated into the zone, evaded a Nailers defender, and sent the puck over the pads of Pavlenko to bring the game to 4-1. Matty De St. Phalle scored on his rebound on the crease of Parker Gahagen with 4:07 left in the period, eventually sending the game into the third period with a 4-2 score.

Nikita Susuyev scored at the 9:48 mark of the third period on a breakaway to regain the three-goal lead. Anthony Repaci scored on the power play on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle to bring the game to 6-2. With 2:40 left in the game, Adam Samuelsson was called for Worcester’s lone penalty of the game. With 23 seconds left in Wheeling’s advantage Max Graham scored on a setup from former Railer Ryan Mahsie for the final goal of the game bringing the game to 6-3.

The three stars of the game were:

  2. Anthony Repaci (Worcester) – 1 goal, 1 assist
  3. Nikita Susuyev (Worcester) – 1 goal

All eight North Division teams were in action Friday night. Adirondack defeated Maine 4–2 in Glens Falls, Reading topped Greensboro 5–2 at home, and Norfolk beat Trois-Rivières 5–2 at the Norfolk Scope. All eight teams will rematch on Saturday night.

In AHL action, Bridgeport earned a 6–3 win over Hartford. Henrik Tikkanen made 23 saves for his eighth win of the season, while Hunter Drew recorded a natural hat trick. Former Railer Cam Berg added a goal and an assist, and Daylan Kuefler chipped in with an assist. Bridgeport travels to Allentown on Saturday to face Lehigh Valley at 7:05 p.m.

The Railers return to action Saturday night, hosting the Nailers again at 6:05 p.m. while wearing Worcester Sharks throwback jerseys.
