Game Story

Worcester, MA — The Worcester Railers’ seven-game point streak came to an end on Saturday night, falling 5-1 to the Trois-Rivieres Lions at the DCU Center.

Josh Boyko made his first career start for Worcester after being signed this week out of the SPHL. he fared well up until late in the second period, when he allowed his third goal, and the Lions quickly tallied two more. Zachary Bouthiller earned his fifth win of the season, keeping Worcester to just one goal – scored by Blade Jenkins early in the second period. Miguel Tourigny scored the first two goals for the Lions, Matthew Boucher, Charles-Antoine Paiement, and John Parker-Jones scored the other three late in the second period. Ross Olsson made his return to Worcester, playing in his 100th game.

Railers and Lions had a combined 31 shots in the first period. Railers had a few chances but were unable to capitalize on any of them in the first period.

Blade Jenkins scored Worcester’s only goal 34 seconds into the second period to tie it at 1. Anthony Callin lost control of the puck thanks to a poke check from Bouthiller, which setup Jenkins to shoot it to the far corner of the net from the left circle. Miguel Tourigny regained the lead on a rush, scoring on Josh Boyko from an awkward angle on the left side of the net at 7:12. In the closing minute-and-a-half, the Lions would go on to score three more. Charles-Antoine Paiment scored from the left circle at 18:29. With no defensemen in front, Matthew Boucher got one under the pads of Boyko at 19:17 on a shot from the left circle. John Parker-Jones connected with a pass from Parker Saretsky to make it 5-1 at 19:54 in the second.

That would be it for scoring heading into the third period. Joey Cipollone and Parket Saretsky came short of a fight after Markuss Komuls was sent into the boards by Cipollone.

Notes

  • Worcester Scratches: Christian Krygier, Jack Quinlivan, Kaden Fulcher, Nick Pennucci, Quinn Ryan, Todd Goehring, and Tristan Lennox.
  • Trois-Rivières Scratches: Anthony Beauregard, Cedric Montminy, Maxim Trépanier, Nicolas Guay, and Zachary Émond.
  • The Railers announced the signings of Ross Olsson and Josh Boyko on Saturday. It was a long time coming for Olsson to return to Worcester, marking his 100th game played in a Worcester uniform. He retired after last season after playing for the Orlando Solar Bears but returned home after retiring. He’s been seen at a game leading up to his signing, so this shouldn’t be much of a surprise of him returning, but perhaps we’ll see more of him in the future. Boyko returned to the Railers after attending training camp and played 19 games in the SPHL this season.
  • Following Saturday’s game, the Railers had the following scoring streaks and droughts:
    • Ryan Verrier is without a point in his last four games.
    • Joey Cipollone’s point streak was snapped at four games.
    • Ashton Calder snapped his point streak at six games. (4-8-12)
    • Keeghan Howdeshell is without a point in his last five games.
    • Daylan Kuefler is without a point in his last three games.
    • John Copeland is without a point in his last three games.
    • Riley Piercey is without a point in his last four games.
    • Anthony Repaci is now on a three-game point streak with an assist. (1-3-4)
    • Artyom Kulakov is without a point in his last five games.
