Game Story

Worcester, MA — The Manchester Monarchs and Worcester Railers met for the second of two meetings between the two clubs this week on Friday.

Mitch Gillam was in net for the second straight game against Manchester. Worcester kept-up with Manchester through the opening 25 minutes, but things began to go downhill shortly after. Railers would end up losing 4-0, and Mitch Gillam’s home-winning streak would be cut after 13 games. Charles Williams would earn his second career shutout with 37 saves.

Had plenty of back-and-forth action through the the opening twenty minutes of play. Neither team had the man advantage on the power play. Manchester had the slightest edge over Worcester with the shots being 10-9 in their favor.

Josh Holmstrom fought Manchester’s Michael Doherty at 5:21. Nic Pierog broke the tie with a 2-on-1 rush at 7:44, making a shot that found the net just below the crossbar behind Mitch Gillam. Matt Marcinew extended Manchester’s lead to two, shooting a Jack Nevins pass to the top of the Railers net. Manchester would their lead once more before the period would end as Michael Doherty had a puck go airborne behind Gillam and he would eventually tap it in.

Mitch Gillam went down after he was skated into during the second period (6:28). Play stopped and wad attended to, but stayed in net.

Nic Pierog scored his second of the game on an odd man rush at 14:58 in the third period. Shots were 37-27 Worcester in a painful loss at home.

Notes

  • Railers Injuries: Malcolm Gould, Tommy Kelley, Kyle McKenzie, Tyler Mueller
  • Railers Scratches: Ivan Kosorenkov, Dylan Willick
  • Friday’s loss had the least amount of penalties called on either team this season with only two fighting majors called throughout the game.
  • A famliar name to Worcester Hockey fans made his return to Worcester on Friday – Justin Agosta. Agosta was traded to Worcester last season in exchange for Ashton Rome. Agosta never showed up after the trade, and that was the last we knew of him. Manchester signed him this morning in a scramble to get six defensemen, and made his return with Manchester.
  • The Hockey Community continues to rally behind the city of Worcester and the family of fallen firefighter Christopher J Roy:
    • The Railers Booster Club announced that proceeds from Friday and Saturday’s 50/50 raffle will go to the Ava Roy Fund.
    • The Junior Railers will be raising money at the Worcester Ice Center throughout the weekend and will be holding a fundraiser with 99 Restaurants throughout the city. More information can be found here.
    • The Boston Bruins Foundation is holding a 50/50 raffle (being Drawn on 12/16) with proceeds to benefit the Ava Roy Fund.
