Worcester, MA.- The St. Louis Blues, the National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate of the Worcester IceCats, today announced that Cody Rudkowsky was named Goaltender of the Year at the recent Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Awards Show held at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario.
The CHL achievement is among Rudkowsky’s many accolades from this past season. He was previously honored as the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Player of the Year (1999), WHL Top Goaltender of the Year (1999) and WHL First Team All-Star (1999). Additionally, Rudkowsky was a finalist for the CHL Player of the Year.
Worcester General Manager John Ferguson, Jr. remarked on the possibility of seeing Rudkowsky with the IceCats. “With the return of Grant Fuhr, the signing of Roman Turek and barring an extraordinary performance in the Blues camp, Rudkowsky will likely begin his pro career in Worcester.”
The 20-year-old native of Willingdon, Alberta recently completed his fourth season with the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds. He appeared in 159 games, while posting a 73-55-14 record with eight shutouts. The undrafted free agent, signed by the Blues on March 25, 1999, will attend the four-team rookie camp in Travers City, Michigan from August 31st to September 2nd. The Blues will take part in the tournament-style camp with Chicago, Detroit and Nashville.
