Worcester, MA- The Worcester IceCats assembled what may have been their best game of the season and beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-2 at Worcester’s Centrum Centre.
Forwards Derek Bekar, Tyler Rennette and Ladislav Nagy, who tallied twice for Worcester, scored the IceCats goals. Bekar’s lamplighter was short-handed and unassisted making it 3-1 in the third period. The other markers came on three of Worcester’s ten power play opportunities. Marty Reasoner earned two assists in the game, one on Nagy’s first goal and the other on Rennette’s goal.
Hartford’s Chris Kenady made the score 1-1 at the close of the first period, while Benjamin Carpentier poked home the Wolf Pack’s second to close out the game at 4-2.
Brent Johnson was in the Worcester net and played a sensational game, turning aside 42 of Hartford’s 44 shots. Wolf Pack goaltender Milan Hnilicka stopped 21 of Worcester’s 25 shots on goal.
Worcester forward Jame Pollock, who assisted on Nagy’s first goal, said of the team’s effort, “I felt real good about the way the team played. We played as a unit tonight and I think that’s what helped us get the win. If we keep doing that every night then we’re going to get lots of wins this season.”
The IceCats penalty kill was top notch, killing off all nine Hartford power plays.
