Game Story

Worcester MA —The Worcester Railers bounced back in the first of back-to-back meetings with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits Friday evening.

Jimmy Lambert, Blade Jenkins, and Collin Adams were the goal scorers for Worcester. Jimmy Lambert extended his point streak to seven games. Jeff Solow made his Railers debut picking up an assist on Blade Jenkins’ goal. Ken Appleby made 15 saves on 17 of Greenville’s shots, and Michael McNiven stopped 24 of Worcester’s shots. Railers were 1-for-5 on the power play Friday with the eventual game-winner coming with the man advantage in overtime.

Worcester seemed to have a sluggish start Friday with their play slowly picking up late into the first period. The goal was reviewed for goaltender interference. The video from the broadcast feed shows Jeff Solow making contact with Nikita Pavlychev seconds before Pavylchev barreled into Ken Appleby. It was ruled a good goal after the review. Friday’s first period marked the first time this season that the Railers did not score in the first period and the second straight home game Worcester did not score first, with Greenville leading 1-0 going into the second period.

Jimmy Lambert evened things up at 18:04 in the second period, with a quick maneuver on a rebound to put the Railers back in the game.  Railers had three power play opportunities but were unable to convert on any of them, their closest coming with Blake Christensen with a ping off the post around the 12:45 mark. Railers had kept the Swamp Rabbits to just three shots in the middle frame.

Greenville tied the game back up, scoring their first power-play goal of the season at 14:58 in the third period. Carter Souch beat Ken Appleby from the glove side. Their power-play goal was on the only penalty Worcester had the whole game, which had Collin Adams in the box on a tripping call.

Collin Adams scored to put the game with a beautiful snipe from the right circle with twenty seconds left in overtime, set up by a pass by Blake Christensen. It was Adams’ third game-winning goal of the season, which was also the second game-winner that came in overtime – the other came on against the Newfoundland Growlers on November 2nd. Greenville had just 17 shots on goal, which ties with Norfolk from November 5th as the least shots made by a Railers opponent this season.

The three stars of Friday’s game were:

  1. Collin Adams (Worcester) -1 goal, 1 assist
  2. Jimmy Lambert (Worcester) – 1 goal
  3. Blade Jenkins (Worcester) – 1 goal

Around the ECHL North division, Newfoundland beat Maine in overtime, extending their point streak to 14 games in which they haven’t lost in regulation.  Reading have won their fifth straight with a 5-2 win over Adirondack. Trois-Rivières handed Norfolk their tenth straight loss.

The Railers and Swamp Rabbits continue their weekend on Saturday night.
