Game Story
Worcester, MA — The Worcester Railers hosted the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Friday, closing their season series against the South Division team.
After a slow start for Worcester, allowing goals in the first and second period, the gang rallied back with a trio of power play goals in the third period. Ryan Hitchcock (7th), Tyler Barnes (17th) scored for Worcester. Tyler Barnes extended his goal and point streaks to 5 and 7 games, both are franchise records for the Railers.
Greenville’s Luke Ripley scored the only goal, ripping a shot from the blueline, bouncing off the post above the pads of Mitch Gillam, and into the net. Swamp Rabbits led 1-0 through the first twenty minutes which was all even-strength.
Dylan Vander Esch extended that lead to two at three minutes in the second period. Yanick Turcotte dropped the gloves in preparation for a fight with Adam Brassard at 4:26, however, Brassard was taken down by a linesman before either could get a punch in. Two minutes later the game would have the first and only fight between Mike Cornell and Brendan Harms. Greenville led 2-0 after two periods.
While the first two periods seemed rather hopeless for Worcester, they rallied with three power-play goals. Ryan Hitchcock scored the first at 4:55, followed by one by Tyler Barnes at the crease at 8:03 and another by Barnes at 13:43.
The Three Stars of the Game were:
- Tyler Barnes (Worcester) – 2 power play goals
- Ivan Kosorenkov (Worcester) – 2 assists
- Luke Ridley (Greenville) – 1 goal
Worcester (21-19-3-3) sits within two points of fifth place in the north division, held by the Reading Royals who lost to the Norfolk Admirals tonight, 5-2.
The Railers will host a former north division rival, the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday night. The team will also be hosting their annual “Pink in the Rink” night with specialty jerseys to be auctioned off during and after the game to benefit the Cup Crusaders. Puck drops around 7:05 after the opening ceremonies.
