Game Story
Worcester, MA — The Worcester Railers closed out their season series against the Brampton Beast with a 7-4 loss on Sunday.
Drew Callin scored twice and Tyler Barnes along with Mike Cornell picking up the other two Worcester goals. The loss was the Railers’s sixth straight and their fourth straight at home. Daniel Ciampini, Jackson Leef, and Jonathan Racine had multi-goal games for Brampton. Railers had a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period and a 4-2 lead after the second. Brampton had five goals in the third period to give them a come from behind win at the end of three periods.
Drew Callin got the Railers on the board at 2:19 in the first before Daniel Leavens tied it up some 27 seconds later. Callin would regain the lead for Worcester later on in the period at 6:52. Tyler Barnes extended Worcester’s lead to 3-1 less than a minute after that, redirecting a shot from Ivan Chukarov from the blue line. Jonathan Racine brought the Beast to within one at 12:08.
Mike Cornell had the only scoring action of the middle frame on the power play at 8:03, scoring with a slap shot from the right circle. Brampton had a grand total of six penalties called in the second period with Worcester capitalizing on just one of their advantages. Most of those were back-to-back penalties, invoking a few 5-on-3 advantages.
With leads through the first two periods, the Railers took the rest of the game off as Brampton scored five unanswered goals in the frame. Jonathan Leef scored 43 seconds into the period and again at 5:36. Former Worcester Shark Daniel Ciampini tallied two of his own at 11:54 and 16:49, before Jonathan Racine scored Brampton’s seventh goal in their second straight game on an empty net at 19:03.
The Three Stars of the Game were:
- Daniel Ciampini (Brampton) – 2 goals, 1 assist, +4
- Drew Callin (Worcester) – 2 goals, +2
- Daniel Leavens (Brampton) – 1 goal, 1 assist, +2
With their slump continuing on, the Railers are now six points out of a playoff spot with four games remaining in their season. A loss on Wednesday will make or break it for the Railers with a possible elimination from playoff contention.
Worcester will host the Manchester Monarchs on Wednesday at 7:05. The regular season concludes this upcoming weekend.

Notes
- Railers Injuries: Evan Buitenhuis, Kyle McKenzie, Tommy Panico, Alex Vanier
- Railers Scratches: Bo Brauer, Connor Doherty, Matt Schmalz, Yanick Turcotte (assumed suspension)
- Beast Injuries: Erik Bradford, Brandon Marino, Brandon MacLean
- Beast Scratches: Matt Campagna, Jake Ringuette, Jordan Henry, Bo Pieper
- Following Yanick Turcotte’s game misconduct on Saturday, he sat out Sunday’s game with all signs pointing to a suspension. As of this writing, no official announcement was made by the league. When asked post game, he was unsure of his status for Wednesday’s game.
- News broke on Sunday morning that the CWHL would cease operations at the end of April. While it should be no surprise to some that the Blades would eventually dissolve due to their struggles both on and off the ice, players and teams have both been blindsided by the announcement with teams like the Worcester Blades folding alongside the league.
