Game Story
Worcester, MA — The Worcester Railers suffered once of the worst losses in the franchise’s history on Saturday, losing 7-0 to the Brampton Beast at home.
The Railers wore New England Patriots-themed specialty jerseys, their last jersey promotion of the season. Mitch Gillam got the start for Worcester and was pulled for Blake Wojtala after the fourth Brampton goal. It was the fourth time Worcester has been shutout this season. Nick Sorkin and Mike Cornell made their returns from their AHL call-ups Brampton’s goals were scored by: Jackson Leef (10th & 11th), David Pecan (27th), Artur Tianulin (18th), Daniel Ciampini (14th), Boston Leier (3rd), and Mike Folkes (1st).
Brampton got on the board twice in the opening frame with goals from Jackson Leef at 6:02 and David Pecan at 10:37. So the story goes for the first period, the chances were there for the Railers to score but it wasn’t so much their ability to get shots on goal, but their inability to get a shot in the net when a scoring opportunity presented itself. Brampton led 2-0, tieing Worcester in shots at 9.
Things got dicey in the middle frame as Brampton picked up another three goals by Jackson Leef, Artur Tianulin, and Daniel Ciampini. Mitch Gillam was replaced at 12:17 in the period, just after the fourth Beast goal. Yanick Turcotte tallied 16 penalty minutes after beating Austin McEneny at center ice, adding an unsportsmanlike minor, a double minor for roughing, and a game misconduct for continuing the altercation to his 150+ minute record this season. Brampton led 5-0 after a lopsided second period, shots were 24-19 Brampton.
With a good amount of fans exiting the arena before the start of the third. 20 minutes separated both teams from showers and a good night’s rest as this game was pretty much settled. Boston Leir scored at 1:53 and Mike Folkes scored at 4:44. Worcester managed to outshoot Brampton 11-7 in the period, but that’s all the team had going at the end of 60 minutes.
The Three Stars of the Game were:
- Jackson Leef (Brampton) – 2 goals
- David Pecan (Brampton) – 1 goal, 1 assist, +3
- Jake Paterson (Brampton) – 30 save, shutout, win
With the Worcester scoring just three points in their last four games, golf season is looking within reach of the struggling Railers. Their regular season concludes in a little over a week, facing all other north division teams except for Reading in one game each.
The season-series against Brampton concludes tomorrow afternoon, back at the DCU Center at 3:05.
