Game Story

Worcester, MA — Making a quick stop in Worcester after completing a long road trip, the Worcester Railers hosted the Adirondack Thunder on Sunday afternoon.

Mitch Gillam had his second straight start, making 27 saves in his second straight win. Adirondack’s Logan Thompson had his second career start, filling in with netminder Alex Sakellaropoulos being scratched with a presumed injury. Railers goals were scored by Bo Brauer (6th), Tyler Barnes (23rd), Tommy Kelley (2nd), Nick Sorkin (12th).

Adirondack’s Dylan Walchuk struck first at 5:04 in the first period on a shot through the pads of Mitch Gillam. Worcester killed off their only penalty of the period, which had Tyler Mueller sitting for Interference at 15:26. Adirondack led 1-0 while Worcester outshot 11-4.

Bo Brauer tied things up with a tip-in at 8:17 in the second period for his sixth of the season. Tyler Barnes scored his 23rd of the season on a backhand shot that went top-shelf. Barnes now holds the franchise record for most goals scored in a single season and will continue to extend that as the season progresses. Adirondack tied the game up with a power-play goal with 18.5 seconds remaining in the second.

Tommy Kelley gave Worcester their third lead of the game, which was his second of the season at 4:20 in the third. With Logan Thompson pulled for the extra attacker, Nick Sorkin put the game away for Worcester’s 25th win of the season with an empty-net goal with 14 seconds remaining.

Yanick Turcotte dropped the gloves with Andrew Tessier for his 15th fight of the season at 5:38 in the third period. Turcotte got the majority of punches in for the easy win. That fight was Turcotte’s 45th pro fight and his fifth against Adirondack in his career.

The Three Stars of the Game were:

  1. Tommy Kelley (Worcester) – game-winning goal, assist
  2. Bo Brauer (Worcester) – goal, assist
  3. Yanick Turcotte (Worcester) – assist, fight
