Game Story
Trois-Rivieres, QC – The Worcester Railers closed out their four game road trip with a 2-1 win over the Trois-Rivieres Lions on Friday night.
Parker Gahagen picked up his 13th win of the season in his 24th appearance, turning aside 33 shots for Worcester. Benjamin Gaudreau made 28 saves for the Lions. Riley Piercey and Drew Callin scored for the Railers, while Jacob Paquette tallied the lone goal for Trois-Rivières. MacAuley Carson extended his point streak to four games (1-5-6) and was the only Railer to record a point in all four contests on the trip. Drew Callin’s goal was his sixth on the road trip.
Riley Piercey broke the scoreless tie with 90 seconds left in the first period. MacAuley Carson forced a turnover at the Lions’ blue line and made a quick pass to Piercey, who rushed towards the net and beat Ben Gaudreau with a backhanded shot. Parker Gahagen kept the Railers on their feet, making 18 saves in the first period.
Max Dorrington dropped the gloves with Sean Gulka at 3:46 in the second period. Dorrington was given a hit by Jacob Dion just moments prior. It was a sparring match before Dorrington went for the first punch, then Gulka took control before bringing Dorrington down to the ice.
Railers went on their first power play at 4:25 in the second period with Anthony Beauregard heading to the box for holding. It was a rough power play, resulting in no shots on goal. Jacob Paquette put the puck in the net with seven seconds left on that power play to tie it at 1. Drew Callin regained Worcester’s lead at the 12-minute mark after a recovery from Cole Donhauser, Callin played the puck off his skate and beat Gaudreau just outside his crease to make it 2-1. Worcester outshot Trois-Rivieres 11-9 in the second period, bringing shot totals to 27-18 Trois-Rivieres.
The game would remain 2-1 through the final twenty minutes as Worcester outshot Trois-Rivieres 12-7.

Notes
- Worcester Scratches: Anthony Hora, Michael Ferrandino, Riley Ginnell, Ross Mitton, AJ Schlepp, Connor Federkow, and Tristan Lennox.
- Trois-Rivieres Scratches: Jake Gravelle and Emmett Serensits.
- The Trois-Rivieres Lions wore specialty jerseys as part of their affiliation night. I had to do a double check that this wasn’t one of their new jerseys they were wearing throughout the season. The jersey design took inspiration from the Canadiens’ 2016 Winter Classic jerseys. The jerseys were fully patched and made by Athletic Knit, something the Railers should definitely start doing with their specialty jerseys next season,
- Drew Callin started wearing a facemask in this game after taking a skate to the face in the final play in last Saturday’s loss to Rapid City where he tripped up an opposing skater on their way towards Worcester’s empty net.
The Railers signed AJ Schlepp out of the FPHL on Wednesday. He has 247 penalty minutes in 31 games with the Biloxi Breakers this season. Needless to say he fights a lot, and could be in the line-up Sunday afternoon when Daniel Amesbury and the Adirondack Thunder head into town. - Jesse Pulkkinen was reassigned to Worcester after being recalled before last weekend’s road trip to Rapid City. He did not dress for any of the games Bridgeport played last weekend.
