Worcester, MA — After months of waiting and speculation, the Worcester Railers HC will announce their first NHL affiliate on Thursday evening.
At the members-only event, Railers will announce the affiliate to be the New York Islanders. This means the Bridgeport Sound Tigers will become the AHL affiliate for the Worcester Railers. Fans will meet with representatives of the organization and a Worcester Hockey legend is scheduled to appear.
This marks another time in Worcester Hockey history that the New York Islanders have had organizational ties to Worcester. The IceCats were affiliated with the New York Islanders when Islanders’ owner Roy Boe owned the Worcester IceCats 1994 to 2001. Many former Worcester Hockey players have gone on to play for the NHL club, including Thomas Greiss and Bracken Kearns.
For an extensive list on all ties to that Worcester has to the New York Islanders, we suggest you take a look at this post, by another Worcester Hockey Blogger Darryl Hunt.
Stay tuned for a list of players from the New York Islanders/Bridgeport Sound Tigers we expect to play for Worcester, coming next week.
We’ll be doing a Facebook Live of the event later today, so keep your eye on our Facebook Page at around 6:30 for it.
