Game Story

Worcester, MA – The Worcester Railers shutout the Trois-Rivieres Lions 2-0 on Saturday night, completing a weekend sweep at the DCU Center.

Henrik Tikkanen made 32 saves, earning his second win of the season and his fifth career shutout as a Railer. He is now one shutout shy of tying Mitch Gillam for most in franchise history. Ben Gaudreau made his second start of the weekend for Trois-Rivieres, he stopped 23 shots made by Worcester. It was just the second time Worcester shutout Trois-Rivieres, the first occurred on March 2, 2024. Anthony Callin is the lone Railer who played in both games, he had three assists in the first one. Worcester’s goals were scored by Lincoln Hatten and Anthony Callin.

Three Railers are now on point streaks following Saturday’s game – Calle Odelius (0-3-3), Ryan Miotto (0-4-4), and Lincoln Hatten (2-2-4).

Neither team scored in the opening frame. Railers and Lions had overlapping power plays with 11 seconds of 4-on-4. Trois-Rivieres outshot Worcester 12-9 in the period.

Worcester and Trois-Rivieres once again had overlapping penalties in the second period. 14 seconds after the penalties expired, Lincoln Hatten buried a loose puck in the crease after Cole Donhauser was denied on a wrap-around attempt. Worcester outshot the Lions 12–7 in the middle frame.

Callin pushed the lead to 2–0 early in the third, ripping a quick shot from the right circle after Odelius carried the puck into the zone. Worcester was assessed three penalties in the period but went a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill on the night. Gaudreau would be pulled with just over four minutes remaining in the third period, Worcester would not have many chances to make the score 3-0, with what felt like a record number of icing in the closing minutes. Trois-Rivieres outshot Worcester 13-4 in the period, bringing shot totals to 32-25.

The three stars of the game were:

  1. Henrik Tikkanen (Worcester) – win, 32 saves, shutout
  2. Anthony Callin (Worcester) – 1 goal
  3. Lincoln Hatten (Worcester) – 1 goal
