Game Story

Worcester, MA — The Worcester Railers opened their back-to-back series against the Trois-Rivières Lions with a 6-4 win at the DCU Center on Friday night.

Tristan Lennox stopped 30 shots to earn his first win of the season, snapping a thirteen-game personal losing streak dating back to November 25, 2023. Ben Gaudreau got the start for Trois-Rivières, making 15 saves in 33 minutes before being relieved by Vincent Duplessis after giving up four goals. Duplessis turned aside 7 of 8 shots in relief. Worcester’s goals came from Cole Donhauser, Matt DeMelis, Drew Callin, Lincoln Hatten, Ross Mitton, and Riley Ginnell. Scoring for the Lions were Cédric Desruisseaux, Tommy Cormier, Morgan Adams-Moisan, and Mark Estapa.

The win moved Worcester to 2-7-0-1 on the season. The first two periods were among the strongest the Railers have played so far, and Friday marked the first time they’ve held a lead on home ice this year,a promising sign heading into the rest of the weekend.

Worcester set the tone early with back-to-back power-play goals in the opening frame. At 4:21, Donhauser buried a rebound off a Cam McDonald shot with two seconds left on the game’s first power play. Nine minutes later, during a 5-on-3 advantage, DeMelis ripped home Worcester’s second of the night at 13:49.

Callin extended the lead to 3–0 at 9:02 of the second, knocking in a loose puck at the crease from an Anthony Repaci setup. Desruisseaux broke up Lennox’s shutout bid at 11:10 after a scramble in front, but Hatten restored the three-goal cushion at 13:29. Mitton made it 5–1 with 1:50 left in the period, giving Worcester its largest home lead of the year heading into the third.

The Railers carried that 5–1 advantage deep into the third before momentum shifted. At 14:09, Kolby Johnson was assessed a minor and a game misconduct for shooting the puck out of play during a stoppage, putting the Lions on the power play. Just 41 seconds into it, Cormier cut the lead to 5–2. Adams-Moisan brought the Lions closer off a faceoff three and a half minutes later to make it 5–3.

Ginnell hit the empty net with two minutes remaining to put Worcester up 6–3, though Estapa responded twenty seconds later for the Lions’ fourth and final goal, closing out a high-scoring 6–4 finish.

The three stars of the game were:

  1. Matt DeMelis (Worcester) – 1 goal
  2. Cole Donhauser (Worcester) – 1 goal
  3. Riley Ginnell (Worcester) – 1 goal, 1 assist
