Game Story

Manchester, NH — The Sixth place Worcester Railers took the drive to Manchester, New Hampshire on Sunday to take on the Fourth Place Manchester Monarchs. It was just the second time this season the Railers made the trip to New Hampshire this season.

Mitch Gillam had the start for Worcester. He lasted a little over halfway through the second period after giving up his fourth goal, and was replaced by Evan Buitenhuis. Nick Sorkin (9th) and Tyler Barnes (12th) scored Worcester’s goals.

Nick Sorkin scored the only Worcester goal of the first two periods, tapping in a rebound from Josh Holmstrom at 3:09 in the first period. Monarchs would go on to score two times in the period with goals by Joe Sullivan and Tony Camaranisi. Monarchs were up through the first twenty 2-1, outshooting Worcester 17-12.

All-star David Kolomatis scored for Manchester at 1:21 in the second period on a shot from the blue line. Tony Camaranisi scored his second of of the night at 12:05, a top-shelf goal from the right circle on the power play. The fourth goal was enough for head coach Jamie Russell to pull Mitch Gillam and replace him with Evan Buitenhuis for the remainder of the game. Sam Kurker scored the fifth and final goal for Manchester on a lucky bounce over the pads of Evan Buitenhuis at 18:55 in the second period.

The game was pretty much in the books when Worcester scored a goal in response to five straight goals by Manchester, with Tyler Barnes making a quick shot between the circles in front of Cole Kehler.

The three stars of the game were:

  1. Tony Camaranisi (Manchester) – 2 goals
  2. Michael Doherty (Manchester) – 2 assists
  3. Spencer Watson (Manchester) – 2 assists

Worcester remains tied with Maine for sixth in the north with 43 points and a 19-8-3-2 record.

Railers will hit the road this week for another Canadian trip to Brampton and then Newfoundland on the weekend. They’ll face the Beast on Wednesday at 11 AM for a school day game.
