Game Story

Worcester, MA — Worcester Railers and the Orlando Solar Bears returned to the DCU Center to close out their season series on Sunday. Railers fell to the Solar Bears in overtime, 4-3.

Railers wore their orange alternate jerseys for the first time this season. Charlie Millen made his ECHL debut, making 28 saves with Evan Buitenhuis getting a break after starting six straight games.

Tensions were high throughout the game with scrums occuring at the end of each play. Both teams played a tight game with the first goal of the game coming in the closing 90 seconds of the second period.

Ivan Kosorenkov picked up his fourth of the season from a pass from Josh Holmstrom from across the crease and tipping the puck in. Kosorenkov’s goal was the third power play goal by the Railers this season, with a five power play goal total this season. Orlando had back-to-back goals by Chris LeBlanc and Trevor Olson, bringing the lead to 3-1. Tyler Barnes brought the Railers to within one, deflecting a shot from Mike Cornell on the power play. Matt Gaudreau got things tied back up after blocking a pass and breaking through to the left side of the Orlando zone, making a shot to the bottom left corner of the net.

Railers fans saw their fourth game in the past five that went to overtime. Orlando scored with a shot that went through the pads of Charlie Millen.

It’s Unfortunate to see the Railers lose in overtime, but they extend their point streak to five games. Railers fans have a lot to look forward to, now that it appears that the Railers power play has figured out how to score again.

Announced postgame, the three stars of the game were:

  1. Michael Brodzinski (Orlando)
  2. Matt Gaudreau (Worcester)
  3. Chris LeBlanc (Orlando)

Back in Black: The Railers will close out their season-long homestand on Black Friday against the Manchester Monarchs. Railers will wear Marvel’s Black Panther Specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Puck drops at 7:05, so don’t miss out!
