The San Jose Barracuda announced the signing of Railers forward Ivan Kosorenkov on Sunday. Kosorenkov’s signing comes after joining the Worcester Railers in October.

Word of Kosorenkov’s signing broke on Sunday by Connecticut Post’s Michael Fornabaio. Transactions listed on the league’s website listed Kosorenkov’s signing and assignment back to the Worcester Railers.

Kosorenkov previously attended training camps for the Philadelphia Flyers (2017) and the New York Islanders (2018). He put up some impressive numbers for the Victoriaville Tigres of the QMJHL, averaging over a point per game in 131 games across two seasons. He was previously named to the QMJHL’s All-Rookie team for the 2016-17 season and began his pro career with the Worcester Railers. Kosorenkov produced one goal in four games for the Railers thus far.

“A great raw talent with some holes in his game in the defensive side. He also tends to overplay the puck at times, as he still plays too much in a junior hockey style, while he should be focusing a bit more in passing the puck and getting back. That being said, he has great hands and excellent skating abilities and put in the right situation he can produce on a regular way in any team.”

Kosorenkov is the second Railer to sign a contract with an AHL club in the past week. He was loaned back to the Railers after the announcement of his signing. The San Jose Barracuda are one of six organizations without a formal agreement with an ECHL team. Worcester will retain his ECHL rights, meaning Kosorenkov can only be assigned back to Worcester unless his rights get traded to another ECHL team.

Kosorenkov’s signing is the second player connection to the San Jose Sharks organization, who were affiliated with the Worcester Sharks from 2006 to 2015. Patrick McNally was the first, who played for the Worcester Railers for 29 games last season after playing for the Barracuda for two seasons prior. Kosorenkov is the first player in franchise history to be affiliated with another AHL or NHL club and remain on the Worcester Railers roster.
