Game Story
Worcester – The Railers wrapped up their weekend with a loss to the Manchester Monarchs. Going 2-For-3 on the weekend, the Railers picked up four points in a close race to pick-up a playoff position.
Railers’ Matt Lane scored the only goal in the first period, which ended up being the Railers’ only goal of the day. Lane found a loose puck off a shot from defenseman Kyle McKenzie and shot it past Manchester’s Evan Cowley. Railers had their only lead of the evening after 20 minutes, outshooting the Monarchs 11-4.
Monarchs retaliated with their first goal at 2:54 in the second period with a shot that found its way through the crowded Railers’ net, with the goal being credited to Rob Hamilton. Keegan Iverson extended that lead with a screened shot, giving the Monarchs a 2-1 lead. Manchester closed out the second period with a goal from Matt Schmaltz with a shot that made its way over the shoulder of Railers’ netminder Will King for a top-shelf goal.
With under two minutes left in the game, Will King was pulled for the extra attacker. Seconds later Spencer Watson put the game away for the Monarchs, 4-1.
The three stars of the game were Manchester’s Evan Cowley (30 saves, 1 Goal Allowed), Matt Marcinew (1 Assist), and Keegan Iverson (1 Goal). Matt Lane scored the only goal with the assists to Kyle McKenzie and Ryan McKinnon.
Railers will travel this week to Wheeling, West Virginia to take on the Nailers. Railers are still within 6 points of the Nailers who hold the North Division’s final playoff spot and have two games in hand.
