Glens Falls, N.Y. — The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, will play in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) beginning in 2019-20.

At a press conference held this morning at the Cool Insuring Arena, league president Doug Price stated that the SPHL Board of Governors this week approved the move of the existing ECHL franchise to the SPHL.

“The SPHL is excited to welcome Glens Falls as a new member for next season,” stated SPHL President Doug Price. “We look forward bringing an exciting brand of hockey to long-time fans in the area.”

Also announced were plans to keep the existing Thunder moniker while introducing new colors.

“If we’re going to change leagues, we should change looks,” they said. “The best way to establish a bold new identity and educate folks on an SPHL environment is to start with some fresh paint.”

The logo is very similar to the one the Thunder currently use in the ECHL. The new logo features the colors of the league logo – blue, red, and white.
